The Space Between.
The Space Between exists to support you to experience a deeper understanding of yourself, to support and guide you to get to a place of genuine well-being and contentment.
We believe that wellbeing comes from a place of connection and that connection begins with an understanding of; and appreciation of the self.
Whether you come to us as part of a couple, a parent or an individual we will work with you to better understand who you are, what you need and how we can support you to feel better connected to yourself and those around you.
We created The Space Between to help make life and the relationships that go with it a little bit easier. Research in attachment, neuroscience, empathy and compassionate communication has provided us with effective and proven tools for strengthening relationships.
Our hope is to share these tools with you, and to personalise them to your relationship, be it with your partner, your child or your friends with the aim of gaining a deeper, more meaningful connection.
Bec and Carlie started ‘The Space Between’ to be a therapeutic space with a difference. We wanted to establish a counselling practice that is fun and normalises the difficulties we all face in our lives.
We have benefited so much from what we have learned and believe that therapy shouldn’t only be a place you go when things get ‘bad’. That with the right approach it can be space that is useful, relevant and inspiring; no matter what stage of life you are at.
Our story
Carlie is a social worker with over 10 years of experience working with children, young people and their families. She is highly experienced in individual and family systems work, with a focus on supporting parents to respond to challenging aspects of parenthood.
From Carlie (she/her) . . .
Beginning my career in the not-for-profit sector, I worked extensively with young people and families, focusing on safe, inclusive counselling and casework that embraced diversity. These experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for connection, safety, and the importance of trauma-informed care—values that remain at the heart of my therapeutic practice.
I am passionate about creating a therapeutic space that feels approachable, empowering, and uniquely tailored to your needs. We all face moments when life feels heavy—whether you’re feeling out of sync with yourself, stuck in a relationship, or overwhelmed as a parent. My goal is to help you deepen your understanding of yourself and the challenges you face, so you can create meaningful and lasting change.
Drawing on evidence-based therapies, I use a combination of systems theories, psychodynamic approaches, interpersonal frameworks, narrative therapy, reparenting techniques and cognitive-based therapies. My approach is holistic and strengths-based, always meeting you where you are. Together, we can explore how past experiences shape your present, challenge limiting narratives, and uncover the full, beautiful story of who you are.
When working with couples, I use Schema Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and the Gottman Method to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and foster deeper connection.
Whether working with individuals, couples, or families, I value empathy, congruence, and genuine connection. My aim is to create a safe, warm, and even enjoyable space where growth feels possible and change feels empowering
Carlie is currently available for individual, relationship counselling and parenting support. For more info please see the services tab, or enquire by sending us an email.

Provider no - 6614411A
From Bec . . .
I work psycho dynamically, heavily influenced by attachment theory, relational and systemic approaches, in addition to neurobiology and the mind/body connection. I tend to lean more into an exploratory, conversational process, although it can be skills based and directive as needed.
Each clients therapy is different and person centred. I use a range of different approaches to support people to understand how their past trauma, childhood, patterns of behaviour or experiences may be impacting them in the now. Which often leads to increased knowledge and awareness of oneself.
I value the strength and uniqueness of each person sitting in front of me, and stay attuned and deeply empathic as a listener. I have a strong drive for social justice and supporting people to have the motivation and courage to re-engage with life and others.
I hope therapy can be a space of joy, laughter, learning, and a place of comfort.
I hold a master’s of social work and have 10 years of experience working with young people, adults, and families in the mental health setting. I use a range of evidence-based approaches and these are unique to each client and what they bring to therapy.
These include:
· Trauma Focused therapy
· Somatic Work
· Attachment and Psychodynamic Perspectives
· Compassion Focused Therapy
· Strengths-Based Approach
· Family Systems Therapy
· Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and CBT.
